Home Office

The idea of working from home is appealing to most employees. However, many employers don’t believe it’s good for business. There are some common misconceptions that with flexibility comes laziness, when in fact it’s often quite the opposite. The benefits of working from home are abundant, not only for employees, but employers as well.

Remote work is becoming an industry standard for a reason. Here are some of the major benefits it offers.

Employee Benefits

  • Flexibility – Working from home allows employees to choose their own hours. This way they can prioritize their daily schedule and get work done when they feel most productive (even if it’s in the middle of the night). On top of flexible hours, they also have a flexible environment. They can work from the comfort of their bed, a home office setting, or even at the local coffee shop.
  • No more commute – Swapping the daily work commute for remote work saves employees time, money, and a great deal of frustration. Working remotely means no more sitting in traffic or rushing to get to work on time. It also saves tons of money on gas! Imagine how much more work can be completed in the time usually spent driving.
  • Increased productivityStudies show that employees that work from home are more productive than those in a traditional office setting. With more freedom and less workplace distractions, employees are able to focus their attention on the assignment at hand.
  • Reduced stress Work is already stressful enough as it is. In fact, it’s one of the leading causes of stress in America. On top of that is the commute to and from work each day—and the money and frustration that goes along with it—and the challenge of creating a work/life balance. By allowing employees to work from home, stress is greatly reduced, which makes them happier and more productive.

Employer Benefits

  • Cost-effective – Having employees that work from home helps reduce company expenditures. There’s no need to supply office equipment, furniture, and supplies for remote workers. Employers also save on power bills, rent, and break-room amenities, and a penny saved is always a penny earned.
  • Low turnover – Employees generally want to work from home. They are happier when they are given flexibility and autonomy. Happy employees are loyal employees. When employees are satisfied, they are less likely to quit.
  • Productivity – When employees are able to work from home they are gracious and tend to work harder. Happy employees = productive employees. Productive employees = happy employers.

Remote work is not only good for employees and employers, but also the environment as a whole.

Working from home is eco-friendly. The majority of American adults commute to work each day (imagine how much pollution that creates daily!). Studies show that remote work can save enough energy to power one million American homes for a whole year. Overall, working from home helps the planet and considerably reduces a company’s carbon footprint.

While it may not be for everyone, it’s easy to see why more and more companies are embracing remote work worldwide. Working from home helps the environment, financially strengthens companies, and helps develop independent, invested, and happy employees. So consider a more flexible work environment where employees can come and go when they choose.
